Alaska · January 15–24, 2028 · 8 Days on the Ground
On the Horizon
That's exactly why we're going. Alaska in January is not the Alaska of cruise ships and glacial calving tours. It's the Alaska that Jack London wrote about — vast, dark, indifferent, and staggeringly beautiful. The Northern Lights. Dog sledding under a sky that never quite gets bright. Hot springs steaming in subzero air. Six hours of pale winter light that makes everything feel like the opening chapter of something.
The reading list writes itself: London's The Call of the Wild, John McPhee's Coming into the Country, Eowyn Ivey's The Snow Child, Seth Kantner's Ordinary Wolves, Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild. These are books that demand the landscape. You can read them at home, but you can't understand them until you've stood in the cold and the dark and the silence.
